about

“Coffee Cups,” the album’s third single showcases Starr’s maturity as a songwriter and individual. The hyper-realist can see and accept life for what it is. “Coffee Cups” explores that queasy feeling of realizing a relationship has run its course but not being courageous enough to end it. It’s a song that describes the growing sense of responsibility Starr feels to look at the longevity of every situation. Even if she has to face the disappointment that is letting a dream go, it’s better than being in denial or wasting time. “I’ve learned that people come into your life for certain reasons and hopefully, once their part is done you learn something,”

lyrics

Just because we talk
Doesn’t make it wrong
I can stay all night
In this dream with you
Doesn’t matter why
You can hold me tight
I wanna stay all night
In this dream with you

Don’t wake me up
I’m not ready for coffee cups
Anytime soon
You’re on my tongue
Dissolving like everything always does

You were just like sand
Slipping through my hands
You were just like steam
Disappearing
I can fall asleep
No memories to keep
No more wondering
If I’m dreaming

Don’t wake me up
I’m not ready for coffee cups
Anytime soon
You’re on my tongue
Dissolving like everything always does

(It always does, it always does… always does)

Don’t wake me up
I’m not ready for coffee cups
Anytime soon
You’re on my tongue
Dissolving like everything always does
